  • Russia – Outlook for 2012
  • Payroll Processing and Employment Law in Russia
  • Payroll in the CIS Countries: Pitfalls and Advice to Employers

In this issue of Russia Briefing, we open with a business outlook for Russia. The year 2011 was a good year for Russia economically and 2012 is looking promising, with economic growth likely to be close to four percent and inflation around 5-6 percent. Furthermore, with political elections and the completion of its entry to the WTO on the horizon, it will undoubtedly be an eventful year.

Next, we move into the issue’s core topic. Payroll processing in Russia is significantly more rules-based than in Western countries and newcomers to the country are generally surprised by the bureaucracy created by what appears to be overly demanding requirements.

Our second article covers the basics of employing and paying employees in Russia in four parts: salary calculation and reporting, personnel administration, employment law, and social security. Our final article covers possible pitfalls and provides advice for handling payroll in the CIS countries.
