Singaporeans on Pace to Be a Minority in Singapore

Feb. 4 – Foreign nationals are expected to make up 50 percent of Singapore’s total population by 2030, according to a recent government white paper.

The Singaporean National Population and Talent Division stated that Singapore’s birth rate has been below replacement levels for the past three decades and, as a result, immigration is necessary to maintain the economic and labor balance of this prosperous nation.The population of Singapore is expected to reach between 6.5 million and 6.9 million by 2030, and the county has embarked on a recent drive to recruit high quality foreign talent.

Singapore nationals currently make up 62 percent of the current 5.31 million population. Just to maintain the population equilibrium, the country needs to add between 15,000 and 25,000 new immigrants annually. The country is also introducing increased cash bonuses for Singaporean nationals with newborns, in addition to providing paternity leave.
