Challenges and Opportunities in China‘s Service Sectors

Published: December 2014

AmCham China has released the first paper in its Policy Spotlight Series, exploring the policy environment for service sector industries. Titled Challenges and Opportunities in China's Service Sectors, the paper offers specific policy recommendations on 12 service industries. With China’s economic growth slowing, AmCham China sees services as a crucial driver of economic activity in the next stage of the country’s development. Services accounted for about 45 percent of China’s gross domestic product last year, compared with 41 percent in 2003. The government has committed in its 12th Five-Year plan to increasing this percentage to 47 percent by 2015, but even this is low compared to the figure of around 80 percent for the US economy.
